Yeah that’s the thing. This is Chevrolet Cobalt and Pontiac G5 all over again... except all of them are badged Volkswagens.

Partially a side-effect of the fact that Volkswagen China is really two separate companies, with two separate dealer networks, and both of their Chinese joint venture partners expect to be able to build and sell a full range of products.

That used to be GM’s philosophy, too. Back when they virtually owned the US auto market, they figured it didn’t matter if their brands and products competed with each other, as long as they were still getting a sale.
